A Comparative Study of Sugarcane Bagasse and Boiler Ash for the Adsorption of Basic Malachite Green from Simulated Textile Wastewaster

The adsorption of color from simulated textile wastewater using bagasse and boiler ash was evaluated as favorable based on dimensionless R computation. The best conditions of the Basic Malachite Green(BMG)-Ash system with highest percent color removal was at pH 3.9 (98.78%), 150 ppm (97.71%) and 1.0 g ash per 100 mL solution (91.59%) while for the BMG-Bagasse system, highest percent color removal was at pH 3.9 (98.78%), 200 ppm (98.13%) and 1.0 g bagasse per 100 mL solution (94.89%). All the set-up conditions with higher percent removal were observed after 100 minutes. The experimental data were further analyzed by fitting the adsorbate-adsorbent systems in different isotherms. Using the correlation coefficient (R₂) as basis, the BMG-Bagasse and BMG-Ash systems best fitted Freundlich isotherm and BET isotherm, respectively, while using Giles classification as basis, the isotherms were classified as S-3 and L-4 respectively. The maximum adsorptive capacity of boiler ash and bagasse was 15.5926 and 12.5636 mg BMG per g adsorbent, respectively.
