Abstract

This design was primarily developed to suggest semi-mechanized process for the small-scale composting conducted at the Institute of Biological Sciences, UPLB, and to recommend an alternative solid waste disposal method to the wet market wastes of Crossing, Los Banos, Laguna adopting this method.

Basic design data were obtained from the existing composting process, from wet market wastes analysis, and from relevant literatures.

Based on the results of the study, the design criteria for a medium-scale composting process were formulated and the proposed aerobic compost digester was designed. The digester consists essentially of forced aeration system and a rotating mixing unit.
