Microbial Desalination Cells as an emerging desalination technique is currently limited to being a pre-treatment to conventional desalination techniques such as reverse osmosis. Moreover, it is currently only realized in the small scale. Modifications have been proposed for a 110 L scale setup based from previous studies in an attempt to develop a setup that will be applicable in areas with poor access to fresh drinking water but have the abundance of seawater. The result of the costing conducted has shown that for its small scale application in a Philippine setting, it will require an initial investment of 155397 Php. Furthermore, the preliminary feasibility study has yielded an ROI of -18%, implying that in its current capacity and desalination rate the application of a 110 L scale set up cannot be advised because of low product yields and high capital costs. Lastly, recommendations for future executions have been made.
