Abstract

An insulated steam reservoir was designed, fabricated and coupled with the steam generator at the Chemical Engineering Unit Operations Laboratory to minimize the pressure and flowrate fluctuations. Results showed that the pressure and flowrate fluctuations were minimized if not totally eradicated with the use of the steam reservoir.

A mathematical model for the behavior of steam pressure at different steam reservoir volume and valve opening was developed and translated into a computer algorithm. The model developed predicted the steam reservoir volume required to minimize pressure and flowrate fluctuations. The design of the fabricated steam reservoir was based on the predicted volume from the model.

Utilizing the model, simulation of the steam generator reservoir coupled system was done to analyze the behavior of the system. The results showed differences in the constant pressure developed inside the steam generator for the actual experimentation and that of the simulated output. These differences were attributed to the heat losses along the system.
